Rockhounding Tours

Arizona Rockhounding Guided Tours for Apache Tears or Red Jasper (you select which tour). These are extensive 1/2 day (about 4 to 7 hours) tours with transportation from and back to your resort or hotel in Greater Metropolitan Phoenix, use of an Estwing, protective eyewear, a Camelbak backpack with bottled water, and buckets to carry out your rocks. We also carry sunscreen and an ice chest with cold drinks.

Apache Tears, Near Superior, AZ

3.70-mile round-trip hike on the Arizona Trail with stunning views of Picket Post Mtn. We will begin the hike by passing through an ancient Hohokam indigenous peoples settlement. We'll stop and examine the petroglyphs and mortars used to grind their food. Continuing, we will traverse through a valley to get to our destination. Located on a hilltop is a plethora of Apache Tears. This location is near a popular Apache Tears pit where people harvest the stones, but it is unknown to most, and we keep it a secret!

Red Jasper, Near Carefree, AZ

Heading out of Carefree, AZ, onto the dirt roads into the Tonto National Forest and a short (under 1 mile) hike, we'll pull into the motherload of Red Jasper! Several locations along this trail will allow you to get your fill of harvesting these stunning rocks. Once we have our fill, we can visit the Sears Kay Ruins. An ancient Hohokam fort was built around 1050 AD and abandoned around 1200 AD for reasons unknown.
